Classification 36: Mail Fraud

Although this classification was established in 1924 it contains earlier records. The Postal Service has primary responsibility for cases of fraud through the mails, but the FBI also investigates such cases, particularly with the mail fraud relates to some other matter within the Bureau's jurisdiction.
