Classification 64: Foreign Miscellaneous
This classification was established for investigations involving the use of the mail or other means of interstate commerce to:
- Demand ransom for a kidnapped person
or - Threaten to kidnap or inure any person
or - Demand money based on threats to injure someone.
This control file, arranged by country, is used by the Bureau to report intelligence information on foreign countries. It was originally called Latin American Matters. In most cases the Bureau simply provides assistance to the foreign government in identification and job applicant matters by checking its files and those of other Federal agencies for pertinent information.
