Classification 124: European Recovery Program (Obsolete)
This classification was established in 1948 to investigate applicants for positions with the Economic Cooperation Administration (ECA) and its successor, the Agency for International Development (AID). Investigations were undertaken pursuant to the Foreign Assistance Act of 1948, which required that the FBI investigate all ECA applicants. However, after 1952 the Civil Service Commission (CSC) generally conducted such investigations and the FBI only entered cases where the CSC investigation uncovered information that an individual's background was questionable. This classification became obsolete in 1963.
