College Station Easter Celebration
The College Station Easter Celebration, modeled after the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, has been hosted by the Bush Library and Museum in partnership with the College Station Police Department since 1999, but the event has a long tradition in College Station. The police department has been putting on this event since its humble beginnings in 1982.The event is free and registration is only required for those who wish to participate in the door prize drawings.Special prizes donated by local merchants will be awarded at the event, including a bicycle and helmet to be given to a boy and girl in each of three age categories: 3 and under, 4-5, 6-7. To be eligible for one of the prizes, parents must register their children in advance by completing a registration form availablehere, and you must be present at the stage at 10:15 in order to win.In addition to the Bush Library and the City of College Station, sponsors of the College Station Easter Celebration include Peace 107, Candy 95 and WTAW Newstalk 1620.Free parking for the event will be available in Lots 43,111, Fan Field and the gravel lot off Research Parkway.Barbara Bush Drive will be closed at 8:30 a.m., so attendees should enter the parking lots from Research Park. One of the most talked about events of the Cold War was the downing of the American U-2 spy plane piloted by Francis Gary Powers Sr. over the Soviet Union on May 1, 1960. After being shot down Powers was captured by the KGB, subjected to a televised trial, and imprisoned - all of which created an international incident.Join us now for an exciting evening with author Francis Gary Powers Jr. as he explores the harrowing tale of his father's experience in the Cold War.Born June 5, 1965, in Burbank, California, he is the son of Francis Gary and Claudia SuePowers. Gary holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from California State University, LosAngeles, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration / Certification in Non-profit Managementfrom George Mason University (GMU), Fairfax, Virginia.He will graduate this year with hisMasters Degree in U.S. History from Adams State University, Alamosa, CO.Gary is the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of The Cold War Museum, a 501(c) (3) charitylocated at Vint Hill, VA 45 minutes west of Washington, DC.
