RG 83: Records of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics

Records Available at the National Archives at Fort Worth

Introduction

RECORDS OF STATE OFFICES

Functions of the State Offices of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics were at first performed by State Land Planning Consultants of the National Resources Committee.  By a memorandum to all regional directors, dated July 15, 1935, these consultants were transferred to the Land Utilization Division of the Resettlement Administration on July 16, 1935.  They were transferred to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics when planning functions were centralized in that Bureau under the reorganization of 1938.  The State Offices were closed on July 20, 1942, in accordance with Secretary’s Memorandum 1008, dated May 12, 1942.

The records cover the planning in the States as carried on by the National Resources Committee, the Resettlement Administration, the Farm Security Administration, and the Bureau of Agricultural Economics from 1834 to 1942.  These records were retained as samples when the other records of State offices were authorized for disposal.
