The National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) funds projects to ensure online public discovery and use of historical records collections. All types of historical records are supported, including documents, photographs, born-digital records, and analog audio and moving images.

Eligible projects may:

Arrange or re-house and describe historical records collections

Convert existing collections description for online access

Create new online Finding Aids to collections

Digitize historical records collections and make them freely available online

NHPRC encourages organizations to actively engage the public in the work of the project.

A grant is for one or two years and for up to $150,000, and the NHPRC currently funds 10-15 projects each year.
