State Boards Program
Since the 1970s, NHPRC has provided funds to State Historical Records Advisory Boards (SHRABs) to support archival work across U.S. states and territories.
Today, State Board Programming Grants are the only federal awards made exclusively to state governments for investments in the archival field. Grants are made to active SHRABs to support numerous activities, including:
- Subawards to local repositories for archival projects and supplies;
- Professional development opportunities for career archivists; and
- Consultation and capacity-building services for small repositories
The program has offered two-year awards of $25,000 to $125,000. Applications are accepted once per year.
