WHAT: A special press-only “sneak peek” of the National Archives exhibit “Remembering Vietnam: Twelve Critical Episodes in the Vietnam War” before it opens to the public on Friday, November 10, 2017.  The 3,000-square-foot exhibition uses more than 80 original records from the National Archives –  including recently declassified documents – to critically reexamine major events and turning points in the war and address three critical questions about it: Why did the United States get involved? Why did the war last so long? Why was it so controversial? For more information on the exhibition, visit www.archives.gov/vietnam. Learn about free public programs marking the opening. “Remembering Vietnam” curator Alice Kamps will lead a tour of the exhibit in the O’Brien Gallery following the remarks program. After the tour, Bell AH-1 Cobra, Bell UH-1 Iroquois, Bell OH-58 Kiowa helicopters will be available to view and tour (through November 12), courtesy of the North Carolina Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association.

“Remembering Vietnam” is free and open to the public, and will be on display in the Lawrence F. O’Brien Gallery of the National Archives Museum in Washington, DC, from November 10, 2017 through January 6, 2019.
