Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Records (UAP)

Records of Investigations of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) Relating to the Office of Special Investigations, 1948–1968

Transcribe investigative reports, correspondence, and photographs relating to sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs). The reports include brief information on the particular sighting, such as where and when the sighting occurred and the individual that reported it.

Case Files in the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts

1790-1917

Help us transcribe such cases as “Two Friends, One Schooner,” "Habeas Corpus for Three Pirates,” and “Lincoln, Benjamin v. 16 boxes of lemons.” These files include written charges or allegations by the plaintiffs; pleas; answers; and demurrers by defendants; appearances of attorneys; and jury verdicts. Many cases prior to 1866 relate to confiscation and forfeitures for smuggling, illegal entry of goods, non-payment of tariff duties, and other violations of customs and revenue laws including the Non-Intercourse and Embargo Acts of the War of 1812 period, and prizes captured during the War of 1812 and the Civil War.

Official Military Personnel Files of Celebrities and Notables

1947–1998

Transcribe this series that was compiled or maintained by the creator between 1947–1998. This series consists of military personnel files, recording the servicemen's name, age, date of birth, birthplace, and additional background information. Personnel files include those of Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom, an astronaut from the Apollo 1 mission that tragically ended in an explosion during ground test preparations; Marvin Gaye, American rhythm and blues singer often referred to as the “Prince of Soul”; Jackie Cochran, the first woman to break the sound barrier; country musician, the “Man in Black,” Johnny Cash; and Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel.

Italy’s World War II Helpers: Helper Claims Files

July 1944 - April 1947

The Allied Screening Commission was established in Italy from 1944 to 1947 by the Americans and the British to identify and reward Italian civilians who had helped Allied servicemen escape or evade capture during World War II. These individuals, primarily civilians, were recognized for their assistance by receiving certificates of thanks and monetary rewards. These records contain thousands of names (both of Italian helpers and those Allied servicemen they had sheltered), stories, and personal notes. Join us in unlocking these stories.
