The Wikipedia Space at the National Archives is a physical learning space intended to promote understanding of Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects at cultural institutions.

The Innovation Hub installation is the first prototype of a project developed by Professor Andrew Lih of American University with funding from the Knight Foundation, which is being hosted by NARA as part of our Wikipedia engagement program.

Come visit the Innovation Hub during regular hours to view the information banner displays about topics including how to edit Wikipedia, reliability, and NARA's collaboration with Wikipedia.

Why?

The Innovation Hub is a frequent site of public events involving Wikpedia, including editathons. The design and implementation of a persistent presence for Wikipedia at physical site is envisioned as an evolution on the ephemeral, appointment-based nature of learning that takes place at editathons and similar events.

This pilot program is being staged in the Innovation Hub in the hope is that experiences at the NARA site can help the creators understand how this approach can be replicated in other spaces, such as libraries, museums, universities and classrooms, in order to spread digital literacy and public information.
