Christopher Gustavus Memminger (1803 –1888) was a prominent German-American political leader and the first Secretary of the Treasury for the Confederate States of America. He was the principal author of the Provisional Constitution (1861), as well as the founder of the confederacy's financial system. This edition includes his letters, clippings, an account book, and other papers (ca.1821–75); also the papers of Thomas B. Memminger, a surgeon in the Confederate Army.
