Willard Dickerman Straight (1880 –1918) was an American investment banker, publisher, reporter and diplomat. The papers relate to the world of international trade and finance reflecting in particular the development of U.S. foreign policy in the Far East. The documents include personal and official correspondence, reports, diaries, manuscript articles, and memoranda and agreements relating to loan negotiations with China. Documented is his employement with Reuters during the Russo-Japan War (1904-5), with the U.S. Department of State in Korea and Manchuria (1904-09), and with Edward Harriman, Jacob Schiff, and J.P. Morgan and Company (1904-09).
