MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY AGENCY RECORDS OFFICERS: Unauthorized Disposition Web Pages

The Office of the Chief Records Officer for the U.S. Government has added two new web pages to archives.gov listing all open and closed Federal agency unauthorized disposition cases from October 1, 2016 to present. This information was previously made public in NARA’s annual Performance and Accountability Report that listed cases by fiscal year.

To support transparency and open government, the following pages are now available:

The new web pages contain open and close letters sent by NARA to the agency. Open and close letters are reviewed for any classified or sensitive information prior to posting. Related case files and correspondence from agencies are not provided. Anyone desiring more information on a case must submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to NARA’s FOIA office.

The creation of these new web pages reflects NARA’s commitment to openness and transparency in government, and ensures more timely access to information frequently requested by the public and government stakeholders.
