Established: In the Department of Energy, effective October 1, 1977, by the Department of Energy Organization Act (91 Stat. 578), August 4, 1977.
Predecessor Agencies:
Federal Power Commission (1920-77)
Functions: Regulates the rates and charges for interstate transportation and sale of natural gas, transmission and sale of electricity, and transportation and sale of oil through pipelines. Sets the value of pipelines. Licenses hydroelectric power projects.
