William Rufus Shafter (1835 –1906) was a Union Army officer during the American Civil War who received America's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions at the Battle of Fair Oaks. This edition includes correspondence, military papers, and other items pertaining to General Shafter’s post-Civil War campaigns against Native Americans, Mexican bandits, and against the Spanish in 1898.
