Vice President Joseph R. Biden

Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., 47th Vice President of the United States (2009-2017), was born on November 20, 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the first of four children born to Catherine Eugenia “Jean” Finnegan Biden and Joseph Robinette Biden, Sr. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1965 and a law degree from Syracuse University in 1968. In 1972 Biden was elected to the U.S. Senate at the age of 29. Biden won reelection six times, becoming Delaware's longest-serving senator (January 3, 1973 - January 15, 2009). During his 36 years in the Senate, Biden served as Chairman or Ranking Member on the Judiciary Committee and the Foreign Relations Committee. On August 23, 2008, then-presidential candidate Barack Obama announced Biden as his selection for vice president. The Obama-Biden ticket won the presidential election on November 4, 2008. Biden resigned from the Senate shortly before being sworn in as Vice President on January 20, 2009. In April 2019, Biden announced his candidacy for president. He won the 2020 presidential election and was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States on January 20, 2021.
