Vice President Albert Gore, Jr.
Albert Arnold Gore, Jr., 45th Vice President of the United States (1993-2001), was born on March 31, 1948 in Washington, DC, the second of two children born to Senator Albert Gore, Sr. and Pauline Gore. He was raised in Carthage, Tennessee, and received a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University in 1969. In 1976 Gore was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives at the age of 28. He represented the 4th District of Tennessee for three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1977 - January 3, 1985) during which he served on the Commerce, Governmental Affairs, and Armed Services Committees. Gore was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1984 and reelected in 1990. He remained in the Senate until 1992 when he accepted Democratic presidential candidate William J. Clinton’s invitation to join the ticket as his running mate. On November 3, 1992, the Clinton-Gore ticket won the 1992 presidential election. Al Gore was sworn in as Vice President on January 20, 1993. He served two terms as Vice President. In 2000, Gore unsuccessfully ran for President In 2007, Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in recognition of his work on global warming.

The Gore Vice Presidential records collection consists of over 2 million electronic records including more than 1.5 million emails. The collection also includes approximately 8 million pages of textual records, and over 300 cubic feet of photo negatives and audiovisual recordings.
