Still Pictures Aerial Photography in Record Group 181: Records of Naval Districts and Shore Establishments

Photographs of the Construction and Launching of Warships, 1934 - 1956 (181-CLM)

The bulk of this series consists of ground and aerial views of the construction of USS SARATOGA (CVA-60). There are also a few photographs of the launching of USS FARRAGUT (DD-348), some of which show the daughter and the sons of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. There is one print showing an internal modification to USS TICONDEROGA (CVA-14). Also included are textual souvenir programs of the launching or commissioning ceremonies of a few battleships. The finding aid for the series is available in the Still Pictures Research Room.

Photographs of a Shelter Construction Project, 1989 - ca. 1999 (181-MC)

This series consists of an album of photographs documenting the construction of Marine Corps Expeditionary Shelter System (MCESS) housing for Marine Corps augmentation forces in Panama. The photographs show B Company members of the 8th Engineer Support Battalion who erected the buildings, the construction site before work commenced, views of the buildings being assembled, interior views of the housing units, and an aerial view of the site.
